Jowar Millet Dalia

Ingredients:

1 cup jawar millet (sorghum) dalia
– 2 cups water
1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter) or oil
– 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
– 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
– 1/4 cup finely chopped carrots
– 1/4 cup finely chopped bell peppers (capsicum)
– 1/4 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
– 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
– Salt to taste
– Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
  1. Rinse the jawar millet dalia thoroughly in water and drain it. Keep it aside.
  2. In a saucepan or a pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the rinsed jawar millet dalia to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the dalia becomes soft and the water is absorbed. Once done, remove it from heat and keep it covered.
  4. In a separate pan, heat ghee or oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Allow them to crackle.
  5. Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  6. Now, add chopped carrots, bell peppers, green peas, and green chili (if using). Stir-fry the vegetables for a few minutes until they are slightly tender yet retain their crunch.
  7. Sprinkle turmeric powder and salt over the vegetables. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add the cooked jawar millet dalia to the pan with the vegetables. Mix everything together gently, ensuring the dalia and vegetables are well combined.
  9. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
  10. Once done, turn off the heat. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves if desired.
  11. Serve the nutritious and flavorful Jawar Millet Dalia hot as a wholesome breakfast dish or as a side with yogurt or any curry of your choice.
